The Language of Viagra — Translated!
Published by December 23rd, 2007 in internet, politics, video, drugs, consumerism, high weirdness, bizarre, media, funny and cool. 0 CommentsA friend of mine came over a while ago and said that he had subtitled these annoying Viagra ads. The problem was the web site that let him do the subtitling, didn’t allow him to put the video on YouTube.
Unfortunately, I couldn’t really help him. But in the meantime, my video editing skills have improved. So with the power of windows movie maker at my fingertips, I invited him down to rip the original off YouTube, and do some video magic.
I knew his earlier versions were quite crude, so we didn’t sway much from his original vision of quite a disgusting little chat between old pals.
The end result — while I’m sure could easily be topped on a crudeness scale, but will still be offensive to some — actually turned out not bad.
Hope you enjoy!

Sometimes propaganda is the best place to find the truth…
Published by July 18th, 2007 in politics and war. 0 CommentsThis announced yesterday on the Voice of America website:
President Bush has signed an order that allows the U.S. government to block the assets of any person or group that threatens the stability of Iraq.
The order exempts the United States.
As Juan Cole notes, “Either the VOA copy writer is a little clueless or this person has a wicked, dry sense of humor.”
Zeitgeist - too hot for Wikipedia?
Published by July 17th, 2007 in politics, video, high weirdness, documentaries, religion and philosophy. 9 CommentsSomething in this little bit of questioning of Christianity, modern finance, and the 9/11 story was apparently too out-there even for a Wikipedia entry.
See the movie’s page, and its sources to get a sense of where it’s coming from… I’m not much on 9/11 ‘conspiracies’ — not because I think such evil is beyond the present gang of murdering, torturing criminals, but because I simply do not believe the Cheney Administration could have pulled off such a dazzling, flawless operation. But Wikipedia’s apparent disregard for materials that are not rendered “notable” by recognition from “official” sources is troubling. At best, it betrays a tremendous insecurity about its status. By suggesting that online cinema is not significant, aren’t they reinforcing the position of the Michael Gormans of the world, that online resources are inherently inferior?

Crazy Speech in Race For Tokyo Governor
Published by May 6th, 2007 in politics, video, police state, high weirdness, bizarre, japan and asia. 0 CommentsThis is pretty good, it’s worth a watch.
According to YouTube:
Kouichi Toyama is an extreme left-wing activist (so said the official introduction, although he calls himself a fascist) who was among the ten candidates for the governor of Tokyo, and gave a way-wacky speech.
A bit of background here:

GOOD Magazine: The Two Births of Kim Jong Il
Published by April 25th, 2007 in politics, video, animation, asia and korea. 0 CommentsFrom Good magazine:
Having spent at least a collegiate semester or two in Western Civ, we like to think that we know a bit about revisionist history. However, no amount of aggrandizement or glossing over that we’ve encountered compares with the disparity between the myth and the reality of North Korean leader Kim Jong Il’s birth. It’s a disparity that belies language. So we’ve done our best to represent it visually.
We hope you enjoy this first video addition to our GOOD GUIDE: to the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, also known as North Korea.
Ayn Rand - Mike Wallace Interview 1959 part 1
Published by April 20th, 2007 in politics, video, religion and philosophy. 0 CommentsIt’s finds like this that make YouTube so great. And this video is somewhat timely for HotnStinky, because Craig Torso and I were just talking about Ayn Rand the other day.
If you like part I, then you must not be an idiot, so I can assume you can 1) doubleclick on the video, and 2) find parts II and III in the related videos section on that page.

Phone in sick: You have my blessing
Published by March 21st, 2007 in politics and consumerism. 0 CommentsAnother cause I can relate to… When I had a job, at least.
Take this philosophy, for example:
If you won’t phone in sick because you suffer from a guilty conscience about “dishonesty”, we suggest the following: Imagine, vividly, how you feel at work on a typical Monday morning. That should make you feel queasy. By dictionary definition, “queasy” means ill. Therefore it’s your duty to phone in sick. If you don’t feel queasy at the thought of Monday morning, then by definition you are mentally ill – you might want to consider spending a few years in a nursing home.
Or, to put it another way: prevention is better than cure, so phone in sick before you get ill.
Please. Tell me why, I don’t like Mondays. Tell me why!
Senator encourages premarital sex

Well, not quite.
But that’s what some people seem to think the repeal of a decades-old law “making it illegal for a man and woman to live together without being married” in North Dakota will lead to.
North Dakota is one of the few states that outlaws cohabitation, which is defined as a man and woman living together “openly and notoriously” as if they were married.
It is listed as a sex crime in state law, alongside adultery and incest. There are few records of a cohabitation case being prosecuted, aside from a North Dakota Supreme Court appeal in the 1930s.
Attempts to repeal the anti-cohabitation law have failed in the last two sessions of the Legislature. Two years ago, a repeal bill was defeated in the North Dakota House.
I feel sorry for North Dakotans — at least the smart ones who want to repeal idiotic laws like this.

The fifty most loathsome people of 2006

Published by January 16th, 2007 in internet, politics and consumerism. 0 CommentsA recent article — which Hot n Stinky had a lot of problems with — in the Globe and Mail titled, “The underachievers: Flirting with disaster,” generated a ton of comments.
good answer from Japan writes: Yum,yum. the real world. Intelligent, witty young people who aren’t chomping at the bit to ‘park their asses’? Not stimulated to spend 40 hours a week doing data entry? Concerned with the questionable morality of the jobs they are doing? What’s wrong with kids today?!? They should be thrilled to jump into this morally-bankrupt society of liars, cheaters and automatons and eager to donate their beautiful minds and souls to the wonderful pursuit of commerce. Don`t worry. Eventually, one small step at a time, they will start to succumb. They will make one decision which they will know in their heart of hearts is wrong and unethical but easier, then another and another. They will develop rationalizations to justify these decisions. They will learn to stifle the cries from their subconscious that tell them there is more to life. They will learn how bite their lips in self-preservation as injustices are done to their fellow citizens and workers and maybe actively participate in doing these injustices themselves. Little by little they will become the ‘participating adults’ that we want them to become. And we will be there to greet them with open arms chanting, ‘one of us, one of us, one of us, one of us, one of us.’

Robert Anton Wilson died yesterday just a few days shy of his 75th birthday. Beloved by the e-liberty Internet hordes, magicians, dope fiends, gun nuts, conspiricists and other political artists, RAW’s death was immediately noted by Boing Boing, Reason, 10 Zen Monkeys and not a single newspaper or wire service beyond this web-only column at the Panama City News-Herald site.
As a follow-up to this post about airport hi-jinx…
If you really want to cause trouble at airport security, you may want to purchase one of these shirts:

After reading about blogger Raed Jarrar’s experience at JFK (he was forced to take off a shirt with Arabic writing on it or miss his flight; new BBC article), I finally stopped being depressed about the war on terror and began being proactively pissed off. I made this shirt, which says “I am not a terrorist” in Arabic. I plan to wear it every time I go to the airport from now on.
I think the wardrobe for my next flight is now decided upon…
New video of Saddam’s body posted on Internet
Published by January 9th, 2007 in internet, politics and video. 1 CommentAs the title says, there’s a new Saddam video on the Internet:
BAGHDAD (AFP) - A grisly new video showing the body of Saddam Hussein shortly after his hanging, his head sharply twisted to one side and a gaping bloody wound to his neck, was posted on the Internet.
The 27-second footage, apparently taken with a cellphone camera, is expected to trigger fresh outrage in Iraq over the manner in which the former dictator was hanged and his body treated immediately after the execution.
The footage begins by showing a body on a stretcher covered in a white shroud and the camera moving upwards.
The link to the actual video seems to have been removed from most places I know about, but here is some similar footage floating around on You Tube. It looks like coverage on Iraqi TV, but I’m not sure. Don’t click if you don’t want to see it.
Found this last night. It’s a great clip.
